Therapeutic Approaches
Through my years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve learned that the most effective support begins with meeting clients where they are; by attuning to their unique needs, strengths, and interests. I take a Person-Centered approach, rooted in the work of Carl Rogers, which emphasizes client autonomy and honours the innate wisdom each person brings to the therapeutic process. I believe that meaningful and lasting growth occurs when clients feel empowered, deeply understood, and actively engaged in their own healing journey.
Play
Play therapy gives children and pre-teens the opportunity to engage in the therapeutic process through the language they know best: play. Through play, children can build emotional regulation, self-confidence, communication, and self-expression skills, among many others.
While play therapy can include directive elements, I often take a more child-centered approach. Children naturally bring an inner wisdom into the playroom, intuitively exploring the themes and challenges they need to process. With the right therapeutic support woven into play, they can work through these experiences in a way that feels safe, empowering, and developmentally appropriate.
Sandplay
Sandplay therapy is a powerful, non-verbal approach to healing that is appropriate for children, teens, and adults alike. Using a tray of sand and a wide selection of miniature figurines, clients create scenes that reflect their inner world, often accessing emotions, memories, and insights that may be difficult to express in words.
Sandplay invites deep self-exploration in a safe and contained space. Whether working through trauma, life transitions, or emotional challenges, clients of all ages can access their innate capacity for growth and healing through the symbolic and intuitive nature of this work.
Talk
Talk therapy offers a supportive space to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a way that promotes insight, self-understanding, and meaningful change. I take an eclectic and collaborative approach, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs of the individual.
Depending on the goals and preferences of the client, our work may draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or identity exploration, talk therapy can offer a flexible and empowering path toward healing and growth.
